Almuñecar New Market Design

ALM Market ProjectNot long ago, Almuñécar Town Hall opened a competition to see who could come up with the best project for a new municipal market – we now have a winner.

The winning entry is called Kana’an and was designed by a group of architects headed by Rafael Soler Márquez, comprising of Alejandro Sánchez Fernández and Francisco Martínez Manso.

Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Navia and Nico Alexandre Heinz will head the construction phase, explained the Mayor, Trinidad Herrera.

She considers that the projected building fits in nicely with its surroundings and the concept of a municipal-market building.

She assured that the Town Hall would work speedily on getting the adminstrive hurdles out of the way so that construction could begin. She didn’t want to commit herself to stating when that would begin

The Councillor for Urban Development said that chosing a winner was a difficult task because the quality of each entry was excellent. He also said that it is hoped that construction might begin next year and by 2022 it would be complete.

    The ” Winning ” design…….Lidl Almunecar Mark II ??

With such a design, how long before this new version of the municipal market is deemed to be not economically viable, and be sold off a major supermarket.

Shock horror, Ms Herrera admits that the council will not work as fast in starting construction of the new municipal market, compared to the time taken to start demolition the old market building.

Ms Herrera’s talents are sorely wasted in her present mayoral position, when uttering the opinion that ” projected building fits in nicely with its surroundings “.

Perhaps she could have paused a few seconds more, to come up with a better word than the abysmal ” nicely “.
