Underwater Photography Winners

LHR Underwater Photography Winners 2020The team from Castilla León, Rafael Fernández Caballero & Oscar Luna, won this year’s Spanish Championships for Underwater Photography in La Herradura.

They obtained 113 points for their work, taking a total of four gold medals for the different categories: Close up, Pez, Angular con Modelo and Angular sin Modelo.

The prizes were handed out in the Centro Cívico after the winning photographs had been put on display for the members of the public to view.

In fact, Rafael Fernández has quite a few prizes under his belt, having participated on national, European and even world levels, yet it is the seabed off La Herradura that most attracts him because of its wealth of fauna and corals. He did point out, however, that during the days of the competition there were strong currents around the Punta de la Mona, which made their task more complicated.

The 32nd edition of the famous event held each year in La Herradura took place mid month last month, comprising of 22 teams.

The Silver was awarded to the team from the Canary Islands formed by Jesús Yeray Delgado and Abigail Martín, whilst the Bronze was picked up by Jesús Osorio and Celia Padilla, who are the actual regional champions of Andalucía.

The Chairman of the Federación Española de Actividades Subacuáticas (FEDAS), Eduardo Centelles, would like La Herradura to be the location chosen for an international event of this kind. However, the Spanish Championships are scheduled to be held off the island of El Hierro in the Canary Islands.
