An 8-man crew from a fishing boat had to be rescued after the vessel caught fire just off the Playa de Maro (Nerja).
It was at 22.18h when the emergency number 112 was alerted to an SOS sent out by the fishing boat. The crew had taken refuge in a lifeboat towed by the fishing vessel whilst they waited for the Salvamento Marítimo to turn up.
However, this was not necessary as another fishing boat came along and got them aboard, which then took them to the Caleta de Vélez port.
Salvamento Marítimo later announced that in the meantime the stricken vessel had keeled over and sank.
