Marina del Este is backing the VI Limpieza Internacional de Fondos Marinos, which will be held on this coming Saturday, the 26th.
The event is being coordinated by the Asociación del Voluntariado GEA, in Granada, which received an award from Salvamento Marítimo for their work on protecting the health of seabed’s flora and fauna, both by increasing awareness about the importance of the seabed just off our shores, and also their clean-up work using over 2,000 volunteers and a network of divers.
In this case, the clean-up will run from the mouth of the Marina del Este to the Peñón del Lobo. Fourteen divers will participate working in pairs backed by volunteers to cover the logistics of sorting, categorising and weighing the different kinds of seabed litter brought up.
The company that manages the Marina will be providing a support boat, as well as containers for the different kinds of rubbish brought to the surface.
The Operations Manager of the Grupo Marinas del Mediterráneo, Alejandro Suanes, said that they are always available to cooperate with this kind of initiative. This marinas group also cooperated with SOS CORALES, which was the first scientific project for the recuperation of corals off Punta de la Mona, organised by Equilibrio Marino.
