Little but lovely Otívar, at the top of Valle de Río Verde, has been chosen as the location for the Campeonato de España de BTT DHI later this month.
It wasn’t the event’s first chosen destination as the original one El Raso-Candeleda (Castilla-León) had to drop out over health considerations, according to the Federación Española de Ciclismo (FEC)
The Mayor, Francisco Robles Carrascosa, explained that the event would be held on the 19th and 20th of September – a little under three weeks away. He is, for obvious reasons, a very happy bunny because this event will attract a number of people greater than the village’s actual population – a tremendous promotional boost.
The task of organising the event will fall on the Club Show Time BMX de Almuñécar, which had already organised the Andalusian Downhill Championiship for Mountain Bikes last year and with great success.

Editorial comment: I love Otívar because it is my home village but I cannot help but wonder if holding a multitudinous gathering in a time of pandemic infection in expansion is really a good idea. It might be an opportunity too good to pass up, but then again, that is precisely what Raso-Candeleda did.
