Motril Policía Local will be keeping a special eye on cortijos in an area where there have been illegal parties within the municipalities.
Obviously, under normal circumstance, if you wanted to invite your friends to your cortijo for a BBQ and drinks, that would not be a problem but what is a problem is that people are organising macro-fiestas events in private cortijos with organisers stopping people on the paseos and around town, telling them where it is. Normally, this kind of event has an entrance fee or loaded drink prices.
For this reason, the police are carrying out patrols this weekend in the area of the municipality knonw as Las Zorreras. But it is not only in Motril itself, but also in Carchuna and Calahonda which belong administratively within the municipality of Motril.
The police are also monitoring social media because it is also used to ‘spread the word.’
The other problem are botellones (open-air bottle parties) down on the town’s beaches, next to the chiringuitos, which have to close by 05.00h instead of 07.00h under the present pandemic restrictions. In Madrid, they have to close at 01.30h!
So far the officers charged with monitoring social media have managed to detect and thus abort clandestined gatherings on Playa Granada. People love to post videos and photos on their social-media accounts, which inevitable gives leads to the police concerning where they were held, if organisers do manage to hold one of these events.
Editorial comment: the fact that yesterday saw nearly 2,000 new infections in 24 hours does not seem to connect with people who are intent on having a good time, no matter what. It doesn’t seem to register with them that night bars are having to close early precisely because this attitude has led to this situation.
