Chiringuitos Grumble

LHR Site of New ChiringuitoMany beachfront, La Herradura businesses are far from happy with this latest licence for a new chiringuito between Dani’s and Restaurante Rebalaje.

They say that they have been waiting literally years for the Delegación de Agricultura, Pesca y Desarrollo Sostenible to process all of their licence renewals, so that they can operate in future in secure knowledge that all their paper work is straight.

They also consider that La Herradura Bay is already over exploited as far as businesses on the beach side of the paseo go.

Uneasiness has only grown since the Town Hall received news from the Junta on the 21st of July that they had extended an operating licence to a new beach bar for the next four years, whilst their much needed paperwork lies gathering dust in a similar office the one that has granted this new licence.

There are four beach premises, some of which have been in place for almost 40 years on La Herradura and Almuñécar beaches who have had their licence-extension requested refused by the Environmental Department at the Junta, citing the Ley de Costas that stipulates that all beach premises should be moved to the extremities of the beaches. These businesses have received temporary extensions these last few summers whilst they wait for a definitive answer.

As for the business on the other side of the road… they’ve lost their beach views, which are an important selling point where customers are concerned.

Editorial comment: how can one administration demand that beach premises must be moved to either end of a beach whilst another merrily hands out operating licences for chiringuitos that do not comply with this? The bureaucrats that penned these idiocies are probably now enjoying a morning on a beach somewhere during their month-long summer holidays. Somebody should be sent down to the unemployment office looking for a new job.
