Residents and visitors along the Paseo de Cotobro have been confronted by a large hole in the surface of the road caused by a burst water-pipe .
The hole, which has since had barriers erected around it and will be repaired this week, is close to where the road makes its ascent up along the switchback lane to Punta de la Mona.
The burst pipe belongs to the Comunidad de Regantes San José, according to the Head of the Maintenance Department, Beatriz González, who visited the road obstruction with a team of municipal engineers.
“At first we didn’t know what had caused the hole to appear as there are many water pipes, both for mains water and ones to carry sewage under the road, so it wasn’t until we had a JCB to excavate a little that we could pin it down to a pipeline belonging to the Comunidad de Regantes San José,” she explained.
It will be this irrigation cooperative that will have to carry out the repair work and lay a new bed of tarmac, which should be carried out before the end of this week, the Sra. González has promised.
