The police in Cartagena (Murcia) have arrested an Irishman wanted for pederasty in Northern Ireland but who had been giving private tution to children here in Spain.
Back in Northern Ireland the arrested man was a head teacher at a primary school but taking advantage of his position he abused a 7-year old over a period of 18 months.
Back in the 90s he was found guilty on 12 counts of child-sex crimes and was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment at HMP Maghaberry in County Antrim (see photo) and barred from employment where children are concerned.
It was in August 2018 that the Policía Nacional received a request from the UK authorities to locate him as he had left the country and it was feared that he would commit similar crimes abroad.
Thanks to the information received from the UK and their own investigations, the police discovered where the man was living, where since 2004 he had been giving private-tuition classes to minors in the subjects of English, Music and Typing, meaning that he was having daily contact with children.
The police made their move on the 14th of July, arresting the man at home. He is now awaiting extradition.
