The Almuñécar Town Hall through its Órgano Gestor de Playas was forced to close down Playa Calabajío again because of overcrowding.
In other parts of the municipality sections of larger beaches were also closed, including the western end of Playa de San Cristóbal, in front of Chinasol, where people were not maintaining the obligatory safety distance.
These temporary closures began just after 13.00h.
The same occurred in La Herradura in the Peña Parda end of the bay, and in front of Urbanizaciones Los Novos and El Castillo.
In all cases the beach auxiliaries provided by the Junta asked the bathers to move to less crowded areas and beaches. The areas affected where in their most part narrow stretches of beach or small coves.
Sunday was also a busy day for the lifeguards as the surf was running high due to the winds which meant that the beach flags had to be changed to warn bathers of the sea state. Most beaches started the day flying a green flag but had to be changed to a yellow one.
