Water Supply Improvements

COS Water Treatment PlantThe Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa Tropical is working on three water-pumping stations in La Herradura and Almuñécar: Colorao, El Montañés and La Flor.

The Head of the Mancomunidad, María José Sánchez, accompanied the Manager of Aguas y Servicios, Andrés Naranjo, in the press call. She explained how they intend to improve the domestic water supply for the two towns in “quality, quantity, efficiency and sustainability.”

La Herradura, for example is supplied by two pumping stations; one located in Cotobro which is fed by the water-treatment plant in Molvízar (E.T.A.P) and wells in the Cantarriján area.

The work is to improve the flow of water from Molvízar to the municipality of Almuñécar, as the full capacity of the E.T.A.P. has never been used.

Most of the water is sent to Almuñécar to the water storage facilities in Velilla and Lo Colorao (above the Guardia Civil post). What’s left over goes to La Herradura via the Montañes pumping station to the Flor water-storage tank.

The Cantarriján wells are about 200 metres deep and like all wells, they depend on the water table levels and are therefore less reliable, which is why the project with its 989,336-euro budget will reduce their use to a minimum.
