Construction work on the Nerja sewage-treatment plant should conclude this month, announced the Mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo (PP).
The Mayor, a representative from the Central Government, the Director General for water management and the municipal infrastructure engineer joined in a video conference where it was decided that the plant would begin trials during the 1st fortnight of July.
This step should have taken place four years ago if things had gone to plan in 2013 because the construction work was originally expected to take 30 months.
All that has happened in between – construction companies going bust and a 25m over-budget owing to project modifications – is the reason for the delay. Yet, here we are, with trials starting virtually next week.
The Mayor wants the running of the plant to be handed over to the Town Hall, but he will have to reach an agreement with the water utility company Aguas de Narixa which has handled Nerja’s mains water and sewage disposal needs since 2010.
