The Mayor of Almuñécar, Trinidad Herrera, has announced that back at a board meeting in April they approved a motion for an extension to the 2020 IBI period.
The approved proposal put forward by the Municipal Tax Department was for homeowners in Almuñécar to have until November this year to pay the 2020 IBI tax.
She also said that they had approached the Provincial Tax Office, requesting that they also permit the ‘fractionising’ (the splitting up of a sum owed into smaller payments) without this incurring additional charges. Thus, payment can begin on the 1st of January, 2021, split into six monthly payments of equal amounts.
She emphasised that these measures were aimed at softening as much as possible the blow caused by the present health crisis.
“Unfortunately, we have still not received any reply from Provincial Council even though the request was made almost two months ago,” she complained.
She pointed out that Almuñécar no longer collects its own taxes but delegated this task to the Provincial Tax Offices in February 2013 to do it on the town’s behalf; hence the petition made before the said tax office.
