A 12-year-old boy in Alfacar was crushed by a forklift truck, driven by his father, when it turned over, pinning him beneath.
The accident occurred on private propety, El Romeral yesterday around 12.50h, when the father was parking the loading vehicle for the morning inside its shed. The shed is used to store building material and several vehicles.
He let the young lad hop onboard standing next to him for this short trip of scarely a few metres, but misfortune would have it that the forklift went over a small bump on one side causing it to tip over, crushing the boy with its weight. Other family members were there when it happened, witnessing the disaster unfold.
The family, very well known in Alfacar, has a daughter of 16 and another who is the twin sister of the deceased.
The Mayor, Fátima Gómez Abad, has expressed her absolute consternation upon learning of the accident and gave her condolences to the family, “They are a much loved family here,” adding, “This is a tremendous tragedy.”
The Town Hall has decreed three days of official mourning and since the day of the accident the municipal flag bears a black ribbon and is flown at half mast.
