Motril is removing a lot of street furniture in the centre of town to give pedestrians more room when they go out for their walks, etc.
The Mayor, Luisa García Chamorro, had a meeting with an association of shop owners during which the above idea was put forward. The suggestion was to remove the large planters along the pavements that were put in place to prevent drivers parking on them.
This extra space is needed if pedestrians are to maintain the safety distance between themselves.
Another idea put forward was to carry out a poll to find out how Los Motrileños would feel concerning turning the town centre into a pedestrian zone.
The Mayor will also be holding a meeting with the leaseholders for the underground parking facilities with the idea of providing free parking for shoppers.
