The Spanish low-cost airline, Iberia Express has come under heavy criticism over a flight with insufficient contagion precautions.
The Guardia Civil, who came across footage of the interior of the aircraft on social media, are investigating the incident and have brought charges before a judge.
The Madrid-Gran Canaria flight had so many passengers on board that it was impossible for them to maintain any safety distance with their fellow passengers.
Several police officers were waiting for the flight when it landed on Gran Canaria. Boarding the aircraft they noted that the flight had left Madrid with 70% of its seating capacity occupied.
One of the passenger upon boarding had complained on social media that the aircraft was almost completely full. He also complained that at no point had anybody in the airport, at the check-ins, security posts or boarding gates taken the passengers’ temperatures.
It is important to remember that the flight was leaving a region of Spain in Phase Zero and heading for the Canary Islands that is in Phase One.
Furthermore, Neither the airport personnel nor the cabin crew asked anybody for the reason for their trip during Lock Down or demanded to see the official document required that stipulates the purpose of the trip.
Iberia (which itself belongs to BA) and its affiliate company, Iberia Express, insist that all the required health measures were observed. Iberia issued a communique pointing out that the cabin, air filters renew the cabin air every three minutes with a 99% efficiency in eliminating viruses and bacteria.
