Surgical Alcohol from Pakistan

MOT Azucarera MonteroA second cargo of surgical alcohol was landed at Motril Port, which will be used to make disinfectant, hand gels, as well as other sterilising agents.

The 3,700 tonnes of this much needed product comes from Pakistan and is destined for factories like that of Azucarera Montero, which is the distillery for Ron Montero.

This distillery, which also produced ethanol, has converted its installations to the production of such medical materials for the Ministry of Health.

The 146-metre-long tanker, Songa Breeza, is one of several ships that has brought alcohol from Pakistan, making Motril Port one of the principal points of entry for Europe for this kind of product. In Spain, for example, the demand for surgical alcohol has tripled and there are few distilleries in Europe that synthesise surgical alcohol.

This makes me very sad. I lived in Pakistan for three years and millions live without running water, so those poor people could have done with this themselves.
