No More Nice Patrols

GRA Policia Local Procession during Lock DownEver since the Lock Down began, municipal police all over Spain have been carrying out processions with lights and sirens blaring in support of medical workers. They also do it to show support to families confined in their homes.

They have been carrying out other demonstrations of solidarity, as well, such as turning up with their lights and sirens going to sing happy birthdays for kids.

They have been told to stop doing it.

The prohibition was handed down by the Subdelegación del Gobierno in Granada to town halls, stating, “it has become known that in some towns the municipal police have been performing activities that do not fit within their authorised duties.”

It should be remembered that when the Royal Decree came into force, all police forces, including the municipal ones, would come under the Ministry of the Interior and not, as is normally the case, under the authority of mayors.

«This kind of action, carried out by officers of the Policía Local, is now forbidden and measures to ensure this should be taken,” reads the official notice.
