People are still trying to reach the coast to take up residence in their holiday home, but getting here is only half your problem, if they do manage it.
Take the case of Salobreña, where the police have even closed down all but one entrance to the town, precisely to stop people coming down and bringing more than just their luggage with them.
Even if you have managed to get in through your front door, then the first time that you venture out and are stopped, if you are not empadronado in Salobreña – whether you are a homeowner there or not – you’re in for a shock, because you will be fined until your wallet gasps.
“Even if you are not intercepted on the way down to Salobreña, you’ll be fined just the same if the police verify that you are not empadronado here,” explained the Policía Local officer, José Antonio Martín.
Editorial comment: it’s simple; until this health crisis is over, you stay up there and we’ll stay down here.
