Medical Centre Reopens

ALM Medical Centre MR20The Almuñécar medical centre has reopened its doors twenty days after having closed down due to the discovery of the province’s first Covid-19 cases.

The centre was closed down on the 12th of March after it was discovered that five of its personnel had contracted the virus. All emergencies were handed over to Motril to be dealt with whilst the building was completely fumigated.

During the period that the five personnel were undergoing quarantine at home another seven cases at the centre gave positive readings when tested, bringing the total up to twelve.

The rest of the staff at the centre, who have remained isolated for 15 days, have returned to work with the reopening of the medical centre.

The regional health authorities call upon residents to use the telephone rather than turn up at the building, to avoid overloading the facilities. Those people that believe they have COVID-19, respiratory symptoms should go directly to the A&E Department, rather than through the main doors.

These are the only registered cases in the municipality of Almuñécar to date.
