Guardia Delivery Service

SAL Kind GuardiaThe Guardia Civil in Salobreña have taken it upon themselves to take food supplies out to a couple living in a cortijo three kilometres away.

Miguel Ángel (see photo) and Mónica, who live in the area known as the Loma Miranda, had just returned from a trip to Barcelona when they fell ill; they had high temperatures and they feared that it could be Coronavirus. So they did what the health authorities recommend, which was to phone in and not turn up at the medical centre.

But it didn’t work so finally, fed up with not being able to get help via the telephone numbers provided, they decided to go to Salobreña Medical Centre. The doctor said that their symptoms appeared to be those of COVID-19 and told them to put themselves into quarantine at home.

The trouble was, there are no neighbours to help bring them food etc and they certainly couldn’t do it themselves – they were stuck. Fortunately, the Town Hall and the Guardia Civil got their heads together with the result that this housebound couple get their shopping brought to them by the Guardia Civil.

This couple’s case is just one of those that the Town Hall is covering, thanks to the growing solidarity within the population, manifesting itself in volunteers going out of their way to help those fellow residents that need help.
