The Soldiers Arrive

MOT UME 02The Spanish Army unit specialised in dealing with emergency/disaster situations (UME) docked at Motril port and have deployed in Motril and Almuñécar.

The 20-man detachment arrived at 16.00h yesterday afternoon and was soon in the central streets of Motril with messages blaring from a tannoy system.

They made their way to Hospital Santa Ana where they parked up outside and began hosing down the entrance and other external points, dressed in their white all-in-one, hazard suits.

All the gathered hospital staff were pleased to see them – it was like watching the Three Kings arrive with the goodies.

Whilst this was being done, other vehicles went to the town’s three district medical centres to carry out the same. At the Avenida de Salobreña Medical Centre they stood with the medical staff for a group photo once they had completed their tasks there.

They had planned to fumigate the three old people’s homes in Motril but upon learning that there were no cases there, the officer in command decided not to risk a visit as the soldiers had been all over Andalusia on their missions and could inadvertently infect the residence of these homes.

The UME also arrived in Almuñécar yesterday afternoon.
