The Policía Nacional had to intervene in the Barrio de Huerta Carrasco and other areas of Motril to break up open-air gatherings in defiance of the lock down.

There was a lot of tension between the police and the residents of this conflictive area of the town when they started asking to see IDs of a group of about 15 residents.

The group had gathered on a pavement to chat, it seems, but the police finally managed to get them to go back into their homes.

However, the police in Motril have been called out on several occasions to deal with this sort of situation in different areas.

The Mayor, Luisa García Chamorro, said that the police had handed out over 130 fines this week and reminded those that receive them that fines cannot be fraccionado (divided into separate smaller payments).
