The Almuñécar fire service, backed by Infoca assets, were busy towards the end of last month putting out a hill fire in the Cuesta Cordobilla/ Cantalobos  above La Herradura.

Even so the fire managed to devour seven hectares of grass and shrub, explained the Spokesperson for the fire service, owing to it taking most of the afternoon to put it out.

It was around 14.00h on Wednesday the 26th that the fire station received a call out. It wasn’t until long after dusk, at 21.00h, more or less that it was declared, “out.” The Andalusian, forest-fighting service, infoca, also provided a fire engine and squad for the task.

Amongst the damage caused were some fruit trees and an part of the farms irrigation system using PVC pipes.

The fire was caused by workers burning the cuttings from strimming the excess vegetation from a hitherto abandoned farmland.  The fire got out of hand owing to the high winds, apparently.
