Three people; son (13) mother (34) and grandmother (55), faced eviction from their home in La Herradura yesterday.
Even though the flat had been inherited 30 years ago, they are facing eviction by a bank because the property had been mortgaged by the grandfather to fund a building company, but it went badly and the grandfather simply upped and left.
It wasn’t long befor they began receiving warning letters from the bank when payments stopped being made.
“My mother didn’t realise what she was signing when my father asked her to, explained 34-year-old Ana Marí,” adding, “then he ran off with another woman.”
Yesterday, Neighbours and friends gathered in front of the house to prevent the bailiff, accompanied by the police, from evicting the three residents from their home. It was to be the third attempt at eviction.
Ana does odd jobs but doesn’t have a steady income apart from a little maintenance paid by her son’s father. Furthermore, her mother suffers from diabetes and disabilities so the outlook is grim.
If they are still living in there today, when you read this, it is because Stop Desahucios and the Town Hall have managed to stall the process yet again.
