The Policía Nacional in Nerja arrested a Russian citizen, who was wanted with a European Arrest Warrant out on him.
This arrest warrant had been issued by the German authorities over hostage taking in order to escape from custody.
The Spanish police began searching for him in November after being tipped off that he could be in the country, together with the names of two compatriots who were allegedly hiding him.
However the German police didn’t know where he was hiding out, exactly, as he was constantly on the move: Barcelona, Madrid, Cádiz and Málaga.
They finally tracked him down to Nerja were he existed by begging, changing where he slept every night or so. In fact, he was arrested in a tent that he shared with his compatriots
It had been back in September 2019 when he took the opportunity to escape when he was being transferred from prison to hospital. He took a female nurse hostage in order to get away; holding a homemade knife to her throat he forced the police officers to open the door and let him escape.
