The animal-protection association, SOS Salobreña, is asking parents that instead of buying a pet this Christmas, they should adopt one.
This association began locally as a small group of like-minded people but thanks to the support of the Town Hall and Policía Local, has grown rapidly.
Aritz Toribio, who is the lawyer for SOS Salobreña, explained that at the moment they are building new installations to house abandoned animals although he didn’t volunteer where.
So far, they are looking after 45 dogs but will have the capacity to give shelter from 50 to 100 animals. We say ‘animals’ but at the moment they are only concentrating on dogs.
They recently appeared on a popular programme on national TV – see photo.
