The Salobreña municipal police rescued a dog that had been left in a bag next to an irrigation channel, thanks to a tip off from a local.
A resident had discovered the abandoned animal whilst out walking and had phoned the police. The dog’s owner had tied up the bag so that the animal could not escape before dumping it next to the irrigation channel.
As the animal has no identification chip, it is virtually impossible to find out who the owner was, so the only thing that the police can do is try to find it an adoptive owner.
Finally, the Salobreña police point out that under the Penal Law Code, Article 337, somebody who abandons an animal to its fate can face a jail sentence of between three months and a year.
