AXA La MaromaA British hiker has been found after having gone missing on Thursday in the mountains that separate Granada from Malaga on the coast.

The 52-year-old man had gone for a hike in the Parque Natural de Sierras Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama, specifically near the base of La Maroma and had been reported missing. The search party located him in the early hours of yesterday in the area of the Barranco de Los Almanchares within the municipality of Canillas de Aceituno.

According to reports, he had set out with three other walkers from Sedella with the destination of El Alcázar (Alcaucín). However, as the group advanced he lagged further and further behind. By the time that the group had reached the Tajos Lisos, there was no sign of him.

Consequently, they contacted the emergency number 112 around 12.00h that same day. The fire service, Protección Civil from Canillas de Aceituno and the Guardia Civil, who used their helicopter to comb the area were used in the search. However, it was not until the early hours of Friday that the G.C. Mountain-Rescue Team found him.

He was conscious and unharmed but was taken to the area hospital for a routine check up before being allowed home.
