An elderly Swedish woman was found dead in her pool on Monday afternoon, on the outskirts of Alcaucín.

The body of the 70-year old woman was found by her husband on the bottom of the pool – she had told him that she was going to take a dip around 17.00h.

The Guardia Civil, an ambulance and a fire engine were despatched to the villa but upon arrival the medical staff found that there was nothing that could be done for her.

The Vice-Mayor of Alcaucín, Belgian-national, Mario Blancke, explained that the Swedish couple had been living in the area for around two years; first in Romanes (La Viñuela) and from this March in a rented, rural property in the Venta Baja area of the municipality of Alcaucín.

The woman’s body was taken to the Instituto de Medicina Legal (IML) in the city of Málaga, where an autospy will be carried out to establish the cause of death.
