A second hill fire in 24 hours within the municipality of Almuñécar was tackled by the local fire service and a helicopter from Infoca.

This time the fire was near the hamlet of Gelibra on the northern limits of the municipality around midday yesterday where 2,000 sq/m were affected, mainly secano (olive and almond trees).

The support of the Infoca helicopter, carrying out ten water-bombing runs on the fire, was crucial to the operation. The same aircraft was used to ferry fire personnel to the fire front.

A fire unit stayed at the site to dampen the fire area down and thus avoid it reigniting.
