Recycling Plant Fire

MOT Vegetation Recycling Plant FireThe recycling plant in Motril for organic waste (foliage) suffered a fire Saturday evening.

The installations, which belong to the Provincial Council, will remain closed for several days until the last embers within the smouldering heaps of vegetation have been put out and any damage to the plant repaired.

According to a Council press release the fire broke out in a heap on the south side of the installations, which spread quickly owing to the wind just before 17.00h.

Two Motril fire-service crews were deployed, as well as an Infoca helicopter, water bomber.

The firemen set about damping down the burning heaps whilst a front-end loader widened the corridors between the heaps in order to create a wider ‘fire break.’

One crew stayed on site, keeping the piles of vegetation damp to prevent a fire breaking out again during the night.
