The 12th of August will see the traditional cross-country race through the Vega de Río Verde in Almuñécar – you’ve got until the 11th to enter your name if you want to participate.
The first 400 people to put their names down at the Sports Board office in the municipal stadium will receive a T-shirt for the occasion. If you would prefer to register online, you can by clicking on this link.
Now the two good things about this ‘pant in the country’ is that it doesn’t start until 19.00h and the route is along a tarmacked lane through the centre of the fruit-tree plantations; shady, therefore but not as shady as the Councillor for Sport… just joking!
Now, if you know the vega you will know that the lane going through it is a 6-KM circuit and basically flat. The starting/finishing line is just behind the gasolinera that is on the main road.
The event has been organised by the Club de Atletismo Sexitano and there will be a trophy for the first three back in each category.
Quite apart from this race, the route taken is a great one for early morning, brisk walks as its always cool amongst the trees before the sun gets up high enough to becomes vicious.
