The Norwegian Bands are set to descend upon Almuñécar this weekend, but we’re not talking about bands of raiding Vikings, but youth brass bands.

Yes, this Sunday the 23rd at 20.00h the VII Festival Tropical de Bandas de Música de Noruega will start knocking out the vibes in the Town Hall Square, thanks to organisers, the Indigo Travel & Eventos and the Town Hall, which has valiantly refrained from buggering it all up.

The two bands performing on the first day are Kuikne Skolekorps and the Hordabo Skoekorps. Now that read like a transcript of somebody chanting with a broken jaw to the British ear but it is, in fact, the name of these school bands.

The musically animated little blighters won’t be confined to the said square but will also parade down the main streets and along the paseos.

All told five brass bands from Norway, comprising of some 300 musicians in total, will take part during the festival which will last from the 23rd to the 29th.

All joking apart, a big welcome to the kids from up north as this annual event is always very popular in Almuñécar.
