The Almuñécar Councillor for Urban Development, José Manuel Fernández Medina, revealed a project to build a bridge over Río Seco.
At present a lane leads down to the river from near the Guardia Civil post (El Moruno) and then starts up on the other side behind the secondary school IES Al Ándalus. The proposed bridge will do away with having to bump across the dry riverbed.
It won’t come cheap, but it will provide an alternative route for residents of El Moruno to reach Almuñécar without having to cross the main road. When the river is flowing, this alternative route is not viable.
The existing lane will also be upgraded and a pedestrian path added, so it is not only a case of building a bridge, which is expensive enough in itself. For this reason the project has a budget of half a million euros.
Editorial comment: Bear in mind that this announcement was made just a few days before the municipal elections and therefore perhaps comes within the bracket of rainbow, pots of gold.
