Work will soon begin on Salobreña’s Paseo de las Flores, which will have a makeover thanks to a grant of nearly 200,000 euros from the provincial authorities.
The Diputación Provincial de Granada through its Planes Provinciales de Obras y Servicios is immersed in drawing up the project, which could be put out for bidding within two months.
The Mayor María Eugenia Rufino, explained that this sum of money is insufficient to carry out the whole project so instead it will done in two stages. Whilst stage one is being carried out, the Town Hall will search round for funding for the second part.
However, just to get the provincial grant has taken almost two years of paperwork and bureaucracy in general.
The project includes replacing all of the paving, toilet modules, as well as changing the lighting layout and the remodeling of the fountains and gardens.
She said that they were doing everything possible to get the Arab-style arch over the entrance back more so for its “sentimental” rather than, “historic” value. At the very least they will have the coat-of-arms shield put back, set in the paving stones.
Right now, the project is waiting for approval the Cultural Department approval given that the castle has heritage protection (Bien de Interés Cultural).
