Four PP councillors made an unusual gesture by returning over 8,000 euros, representing part of their party’s municipal funding, to the municipal coffer.

María del Carmen Vílchez, Olga Rodríguez, Miguel Ángel Aguilera and María Rodríguez, handed over 8.574,29 euros at the Registro Municipal saying that it was a question of principles.

“We believe we got into politics to do good and these funds should be used for that reason and not for carrying out electoral campaigns, as other parties have done,” adding,” if every political party did the same, there would be more money for spending on Salobreña,” they reasoned.

They said that they had tried to donate the money to social causes or add it to budget section where it could do more good, but that can’t be done legally.

These four PP councillors made the decisions by themselves, independently of the local party leader, with whom they have no contact as disagree with the party candidate.

The said councillors joined the PP when Manuel Martin was the party Head, but who has since left the party and heads Vox on a provincial level, as well as Vox candidate for the post of Mayor of Salobreña.
