Protest at The Town Hall

SAL Protest outside the Town HallAround 300 protesters turned up outside Salobreña Town Hall to demonstrate against the lack of beach services. The protest organisers, the Asociación Playas de Salobreña represents some 4,000 flats owners, so that is a lot of unhappy bunnies.

The Mayor, facing elections in just over a fortnight, should be worried because a thousand votes either way can mean continuing in the mayoralty or looking for a new job.

The complaints range from a lack of police presence to littered streets and forgotten flowerbeds.

The gathered and irate locals brandished 24 individual placards with such messages as “smelly refuse makes people indignant,” and “the beach also is part of town.” More ominous, given the upcoming local elections, “many great ideas but little achieved.”

But it wasn’t only the beach folk who were protesting because residents of Lobres were also there with the same kind of beef; i.e., we’ve been forgotten!
