The Policía Nacional arrested a mother on Wednesday in Vélez-Málaga for allegedly forcing her 12-year-old daughter to shoplift in El Ingenio shopping centre.
The 44-year-old Spanish mother had managed to steal, using her daughter, over a thousand euros.
A shop detective caught the girl red-handed leaving a shop without paying for the goods that she had removed and had informed the police.
According to the minor, her mother had put her up to it, threatening her with being punished if she did not steal items of clothing. The mother would wait outside in her car for the girl to emerge from the shopping centre.
The police located the mother in the car park and searched the car, finding items valued at over 1,000 euros, with their price tags still attached. All of the items were returned to the shops from where they had been lifted.
