Seatbelt Use Campaign

SPN Sharing a Seat BeltThe Guardia Civil carried out a campaign to heighten awareness about the use of car seat belts and child seats, but the campaign was not confined to Spain.

This campaign belongs to TISPOL (European Traffic Police Network) which is an organisation that has been established by the traffic police forces of Europe in order to improve road safety and law enforcement on the European roads.

Police officers in 28 countries across Europe conducted seatbelt checks. As well as ensuring that seatbelts were worn, officers also checked for correctly-fitted child restraints and compliant helmet use among motorcyclists.

According to the Head of TISPOL, Paolo Cestra says: “seatbelts reduce the risk of death by 45 per cent for drivers and front seat occupants. They also reduce the risk of serious injury by 50 per cent.”

During a similar operation across Europe in March 2018, more than 100,000 seatbelt offences were detected.
