A woman and three children had a close call when a tree fell onto their car as it was coming through the municipality of Jete. Nobody was hurt.
The incident occurred around 19.30h when a pine tree crashed down onto the bonnet along the stretch of straight road leading up to the Jete gasolinera. The mother, Amanda, was returning from Almuñécar with her three children aged six, three and two, after visiting relatives in there.
Fire personnel from Almuñécar worked on clearing the tree and broken branches from the road whilst a Guardia Civil patrol directed the traffic. The road was open again by 20.00h, said the Mayor of Jete, Plácido Jerónimo.
However, the first on the scene had been the Mayor, accompanied by a villager with a chainsaw who got the car free of the branches.
Amanda told us that as the car had lost a lot of water and oil, she hadn’t dared try to drive it and had it towed away.
The kids were shaken up so when she told them “you see why it is important to wear your seatbelt now?” the message certainly hit home.
