There was quite a scare in the Port of Barcelona yesterday when a huge ferry collided with the dock, knocking over a large dockside crane.
The passenger ferry, Excellent, caused the crane to topple over and crash on top of containers with inflammable material inside. The ensuing fire, which lasted around two hours, required the presence of several fire-fighting vehicles to bring under control and put out.
Although workers can be seen running for their lives, nobody was hurt and the ferry itself appeared to have suffered little visible damage.
The ferry, measuring 200 metres in length, is owned by the Italian company, Grandi Navi Veloci, which released a statment that the collision had been caused by strong winds and currents, making docking so difficult.
