A British man drowned around midday today whilst out swimming off Playa de La Calahonda.
The emergency 112 call centre received an alert at around 13.30h to say that a man had been retrieved from the sea unconscious and that bystanders where trying to bring him round.
An ambulance, as well as the Local and National Police forces, were despatched but nothing could be done for the victim.
The Policía Nacional press release said that the victim was a 63-year-old man and that he had died on the beach.
The coroner later gave permission for the body to be moved and taken to the Instituto Anatómico Forense in Granada.
