Guardia Shot and Killed

GRA Guardia Road BlockA Guardia Civil policeman was shot and killed in the early hours of this morning after flagging down a vehicle whilst carrying out a spot check following a robbery in a nearby town.

The shooting incident, which took place in Huétor Vega, followed a reported robbery in Las Gabias. The car in which the suspects were travelling had been identified as having been involved with the robbery.

Upon being stopped the occupants of the car immediately opened fire on the police officers, according to the Guardia Civil press release.

The 49-year-old policeman, who was stationed in Zubia and married with has two children, received a bullet  wound in the abdomen and despite being rushed to Granada’s main general hospital, the PTS, he later died.

The individual who fired the fatal shot has been identified and is on the run.
