The largest ship in the Spanish Navy, the Juan Carlos I aircraft carrier, will dock this Friday the 12th, as planned.
The ship will be open to the general public for the whole of the weekend, but even so the first batch of 12,000 visitor passes were snapped up shortly after being made public. The passes were disappearing so fast that they increased them to 15,000, but it made little difference.
The visiting times are 10.30h to 13.00h on Friday and Sunday, and 16.00h to 19.30h on Friday and Saturday. Saturday morning is reserved for a ‘swearing-allegiance-to-the-flag’ ceremony for civilians, which also requires putting your name down beforehand.
You can book a visitor’s pass at the Motril Tourist Information Office next to the Parque de las Americas or online but unless they increase the number of visitor passes again, you’ll be out of luck for getting aboard. You can, hopefully, still see it from the dockside.
