The Mayor of Torrox has gleefully made it known that they have installed a speed camera at the entrance to the town, however, there’s no need to panic quite yet.
Mayor Óscar Medina said that they won’t be fining anybody just yet and that it will only be operative, for the moment, in an ‘informative’ mode.
The benevolent, speed trap has been installed on the A-7207 between the gasolinera and Algarrobo Pérez. This is near the football ground of San Roque, so it has pedestrian traffic between the town and the football ground, as well.
He described the device as “an instrument of a teaching character, which will not fine speeding motorist but will merely make them aware of the fact that they are going too fast” on that particular stretch of road.
The Councillor for Public Works, Paola Moreno, on the other hand, pointed out that they have been busy all year sprucing up the town, tarmacking here and erecting new sign posts there, etc, giving the town a “new and innovating look.”
