Hospital’s Murky Water?

MOT santa ana hospital OnLThe Santa Ana Hospital in Motril has found that occasionally when you open the taps, slightly murky water comes out of them; something that has been put on Facebook.

There’s a video showing a shower with this brownish water coming out of it and it seems that the problem is that the plumbing hasn’t been changed in 30 years from when the hospital was first built.

So, let’s put this into perspective: it occasionally occurs and it is not that discoloured although discoloured it is. It seems that some mornings the water runs a little cloudy but this wears off as the day progresses. One thing is for sure, the water has never been as dark as the water coming out of the shower in the facebook video.

So, there are two opposing camps: those that think that the water comes out like that and those that think that somebody is trying to discredit the public-health system – the truth probably lies somewhere between the two.

The hospital management are already going about sorting it out. Hospital Head, Francisco Pérez Sáez, said that the hospital is 30-years old and the hospital is constantly undergoing building works, with renovations taking place. He also said that last week there was an incident following a break in the mains, which was being repaired, adding that it is when the water is shut off that the flow turns murky before cutting off completely; i.e., the dregs.

He also pointed out that since the problem first emerged they have had clinical tests carried out on the water and it is fit for domestic use, as it has always been, he claims.

There is work being carried out with a budget of 750,000 euros to improve the mains supply, but the work is moving ahead slowly but even so should be finished between six months’ to a year’s time.
