Around 30 people were temporarily evacuated from their homes in Salobreña as a precautionary measure owing to a fire in a flat.

The fire was reported at 19.10h, Saturday evening on the Plaza de Goya (near the Tourist Information Office) by a neighbour who was alarmed by smoke coming out of a 2nd-floor flat.

The Motril fire service was immediately despatched, as was an ambulance and a Guardia Civil patrol.

The firefighters soon extinguished the fire and then set about ventilating the dwelling and stairs area.
