The new structures on the beach in Salobreña between El Peñon and La Guardia have only been accessible for a month – yet already they have been vandalised.
It was on Monday morning that locals woke up to find offensive graffiti spray-painted onto white benches and these benches are brand new, inaugurated by the Mayor on the 20th of June.
All this infrastructure was put in place for one of the projected hotels, which should be opened next year – even though there is not even one brick in place belonging to the projected building.
The Policía Local have begun an investigation into this mindless defacing of the urban furniture but with the town crammed with tourists it will be an almost impossible task, perhaps.
The Mayor has promised to increase police presence down there, but again, the police force is already stretched to its limits coping with a summer population that triples the off-season one.
Precisely because of these resource limitations, the Mayor has called on residents and visitors alike to be vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour or incidents.
