The Mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Antonio Moreno Ferrer, opted not to include a motion for the expansión of the Ingenio Shopping Centre in the July Ordinary Plenary Meeting.
The motion was to approve the enlargement of the shopping-centre, which belongs to Sociedad Azucarera Larios S. A. (SALSA) by 4,860 sq/m.
The reason that he withdrew the motion, he explained, was because he wanted “all the information on this initiative.”
But perhaps it was more because of a meeting that he had held with local business associations ACEV and ACET, which are strongly against such a move because of the negative repercussions that it would have on local shops.
Both associations were “satisfied” by his back-peddling but remained “cautious,” even if it were approved this time round, there remains the intention to put the motion forward in a later Ordinary Plenary, or even an Extraordinary one.
The motion, which belongs to Larios, is of general interest, in the words of the Mayor, as he believes it will generate employment. As far as how it will affect local small businesses, he considers that it will not be a problem…
